PURPOSE STATEMENT
African-Americans, Hispanic/Latino Americans, American Indians, and Asians are at particularly high risk for the development of type 2 diabetes. This interactive case based Webcast will have leading experts in diabetes discuss the racial and ethnic issues in diabetes care while discussing strategies to ideal management of this growing patient population.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Discuss the epidemiology of diabetes, with particular focus on minority ethnic groups.
- Identify the barriers to optimal diabetes care in various ethnic patient populations
- Explore methods for overcoming identified barriers to achieve optimal glycemic control in these patient populations
TARGET AUDIENCE
This series is intended for primary care providers, certified diabetes educators, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare providers who treat patients who are at risk of developing, or currently have diabetes.
