PURPOSE STATEMENT

There has been growing concern about the recent sharp increase in reported cases of type 2 diabetes in adolescents and young adults. Our interactive case based Webcast with expert faculty will review this current trend and discuss the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of type 2 diabetes in this patient population.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss the increasing prevalence of diabetes in adolescents and young adults
  • Recognize the screening criteria and risk factors that can help identify diabetes in at-risk adolescents and young adults at early stages of disease progression
  • Review treatment strategies for adolescents and young adults with diabetes, and consider adherence issues that may be particularly problematic in this patient population

TARGET AUDIENCE

This series is intended for primary care providers, certified diabetes educators, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare providers who treat patients who are at risk of developing, or currently have diabetes.
